Rear Admiral Paul F. Sullivan
Rear Admiral Sullivan graduated with distinction from the United States Naval
Academy in 1970. After attending basic submarine training and serving an
initial submarine tour, he commenced his graduate studies as a Burke Scholar
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution. He graduated in 1975 with a Master of Science
degree in Ocean Engineering. In 1994, he attended the National War College
where he earned a Masters degree in National Security Strategy.

Sea billets have included assignment as Supply Officer onboard the fleet diesel
submarine USS CAIMAN (SS 323), various engineering division officer billets on
USS DACE (SSN 607), Engineer Officer on USS GEORGE C. MARSHALL
(SSBN 654), and
Executive Officer on USS RICHARD B. RUSSELL (SSN 687).
He commanded the outstanding crews onboard attack submarine USS
BIRMINGHAM (SSN 695), then homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and the
fleet ballistic missile submarine USS FLORIDA (SSBN 728)(Blue), homeported
in Bangor, Washinton.


Shore billets have included assignment on the staff of Submarine Development Squadron Twelve as a member
of the Tactical Analysis Group; staff of Submarine Squadron Seventeen as Deputy Commander for Training and
Operations, and Deputy Director for Current Operations on the Joint Staff in Washington, DC.

As a Flag Officer, he served as Commander, Submarine Group Nine in Bangor, WA. His next assignment was as
Director, Deep Submergence Branch (N873) on the OPNAV Staff. He then served as a principle member on the
United States Strategic Command Staff, first as Director, Operations and Logistics (J3/4), and then as Director,
Plans and Policy (J5). He most recently completed a tour on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff as Director,
Submarine Warfare Division (N77).
