Welcome To The Official Website For The U.S.S. RICHARD B. RUSSELL (SSN-687)
|
Hello, shipmates!
I'd like to introduce you to former USS RICHARD B.
RUSSELL (SSN687) shipmate, IC3(SS) Anthony
"Tony" Cuthbertson, USN. Tony was generous
enough to make a significant donation of images of
the USS RICHARD B. RUSSELL (SSN687) and her
crew from his time aboard.
Tony was a resident of barracks 930 and passes
along his condolences to Jeffrey Brown's family on
Jeff's passing. He also extends a heart felt
"Hello!", to former shipmates. In Tony's own words:
"Let me first give my condolences to the Brown family. Jeff Brown was my first
roommate at barracks 930. I hold my time spent on the Russell in high regard along
with the wonderful people I served with. Even though we have all gone our separate
ways and started new careers and families we are still connected by the memories
even when the names have been forgotten. Who can forget the stench of blowing
san #2 or walking on cans for two months or losing all the coffee filters only to find
them on the maneuvering watch for our return to port. Someone should make a
movie!"
I agree that the USS RICHARD B. RUSSELL (SSN687) would have made an excellent
location for a movie regardless of the time frame served. From what I gather as I
learn more about the ship and her crew, there was no period in time where serving
aboard her was anything other than a series of adventures. Some of them were
fun-filled, while others were long, arduous and emotionally draining evolutions.
However, it seems all agree that no matter what situation we endured, in the end, it
was worth the effort and time away from our families and friends.
For Tony Cuthbertson: Best wishes, to all!
To Tony Cuthbertson: Thank you for your valuable contribution to this site and for
your service aboard one of the finest warships to ever sail the oceans of the world.
Thank you for remaining a shipmate!
Best wishes to you and yours,
HMCS(SS) Richard T. "Doc" MacDonald, USN, Retired
