| Related memory: I can remember the commissioning party for U.S.S. RICHARD B. RUSSELL (SSN-687). It was in August, 1975. The day was super hot. During the party at a very nice hotel, a very bad lightning storm came through the area and killed all power. The party continued for hours with no electricity. I heard that some of the crew and their wives/girlfriends went skinny dipping in the hotel swimming pool, but of course, that was just a rumor. By: John C. Barranco |
